Mission and Values
Mission
Contribute to a culture of promoting the rights of children and youth, human rights, social inclusion, participatory democracy and sustainable development based on actions envolving journalism, information dissemination, entertainment and advertising in any of the media platforms and also in the field of public communication.
Values
The initiatives undertaken by ANDI are founded on promoting and strengthening a professional and ethical dialogue between newsrooms, press associations, communication schools, governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society, guided by the principle of media for development. This conceptual framework encompasses communications as a strategic element for the consolidation of democratic systems, guaranteeing human rights, and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
We recognize the following as fundamental conditions for social equality and human development:
• Promoting the rights of children and youth as an absolute priority.
• Ensuring different social groups and sectors equal participation in the public discussion on access to the benefits accruing from full social inclusion.
• Securing a harmonious relationship between human beings and the environment.
Because we recognize both the role of communications between human beings and the impact of the media on the civilizing process:
• We support democratic communications systems that incorporate in an integrated way, citizen, community, civic, business, public, or State initiatives.
• We defend the freedom of opinion, expression, and press and the right of broad access to information.
• We defend the right of response of citizens and institutions and of other democratic mechanisms to safeguard the interests, privacy, and dignity of these segments.
• We advocate the right of all individuals to communications and citizen participation in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of communication policies.
• We contribute to a balanced approach between State regulation and self-regulation in regard to the ethical, technical, and market aspects of the various forms of communications.
